Following the pattern of TV’s “Project Runway,” my  8 to 11 year old students created these designs in my Recycled Runway for Kids class. The girls were divided into teams and given one hour to complete a “challenge” using things like plastic bags,  magazines, packing material, dog food bags and duct tape. And of course we had runway shows and guest judges. The designs were exhibited in the windows of a trendy designer shop in the Hamptons.

I’ll be presenting a Green Couture DIY workshop at Maker Faire RI on Sept. 19th.

JOURNEY: I made my first dress at age seven and have been making things ever since. I have a BFA in art and have finally managed to unlearn all the things I learned in art school. For me the process is more important than the product and now enjoy teaching and especially collaborating with kids and adults.

FAVORITE TOOLS:  Junk, recycled materials, my altered camera

Current projects:  My entry into the 99 cent store crafting challenge on Craftster, getting ready for Maker Faire RI .

GOAL: Using art to create social change.
